Public School Process

If you are moving your child from public school to homeschool (micro school students are considered homeschooled), this is the Star City School District’s process you need to follow:

1. First speak with the building principal. This allows them to have the opportunity to speak with the student/parent and ensure all things are taken care of, including any student debt, technology, etc.

2. Once that meeting is held, parents must submit the NOI form (Notice of Intent) either online via the DESE website linked below, or on paper turned into the district administrative office. Hard copies of this form will be given to you at your interview.

If your child would like to continue to participate in choir, band, or a sport, this is the process the Star City School District requires you to follow:

  • The student or their parent must advise the building principal in writing of the request to participate before the activity’s signup, tryout, or participation deadline established for the activity.

  • The district REQUIRES the student to be enrolled in the period in which the activity/sport occurs. For example, if they are participating in Band, they must be enrolled in the applicable period for which that activity has a class.

  • The student must report to school within the first 11 days of the fall or spring semester to be eligible to participate.

  • The student must be a resident of SCSD unless their resident school does not offer the particular activity that they are requesting to participate in.

  • The student must meet the same academic/discipline eligibility requirements as the other students participating (More detail listed in 6-15-509).

  • This does not guarantee participation in the interscholastic activity, but gives equal access - the student shall have the same opportunity as the other students to try-out/participate without discrimination.

  • The student/parent will be responsible for transportation to/from school to attend the activity/athletic period. They must follow the applicable sign-in/sign-out procedures in the office. They will not be allowed to ride the bus to school in the morning or home from school in the afternoon.
